Self-Service Data Discovery:

DNS provides users with a single universal browser to search for data by key-words, data type, location, vendor, etc. in mere seconds.  Furthermore, the search allows users to not only retrieve the desired file/table but also to know what questions can be answered with the selected file/data, giving them a quick context filter to see if the data in question is relevant.  Now you can know what the data asset can be used for before spending hours or days looking through thousands of columns and lines in every table. 


DNS achieves this by:

  1. Using an API-driven methodology to connect to all different databases, data lakes, data warehouses, and cloud data sources to automatically retrieve metadata.

  2. Infer meaning from the metadata to expose a logical data repository that can be searched across all different data sources. 


End-to-End Self-Service Analytics:

Organizations are typically plagued by the stress of trying to meet the business demands for insights in a timely manner.  A significant part of this bottleneck is attributed to two factors:


  1. The business does not know the “right” technical terms to include the technical teams when requesting data.  The technical teams know how to pull the data but don’t know if they are pulling the “right” data from a business context.  This back-and-forth can take weeks if not months to resolve.

  2. The time to assemble the data across different data sources and to write a SQL statement to create a report for the business users remains a very manual and error-prone task that is highly variable based on the individual performing the task.  In some cases, the act of simply writing a SQL query can take up to 7 hours. This bottleneck is further exacerbated by the fact that many companies have a limited amount of people qualified to write the query.


 DNS addresses these problems:

  1. Allowing users to search for data not just in terms of file names or table names, but in the form of natural language questions.  The latter is far more intuitive to the business users who may not know the table or file names but do know what questions they need to have answered.  Promethium’s NLP engine allows natural language questions to be automatically parsed for data, context, intent, as well as other filters, providing a clear and specific request (what Promethium calls “Directions”) to the technical teams so they know exactly what needs to be extracted, assembled and prepped.

  2. Allowing the “Directions” to be automatically converted to a fully functional SQL statement and even providing data virtualization to execute queries that may span multiple/different data sources.


One this is done, users can now search for data by either asking questions or searching for previously asked questions.  Upon selecting a question, DNS provides users with the data and SQL statement required to execute the query. Should the user choose, DNS will also execute the query, provided the user has the proper credentials to access the selected data. Now, users can ask a question, see the required data, see the SQL statement automatically generated and even execute the query regardless of where the data comes from, or what source it originated on, all in under 4 minutes. 

Real-Time Data Governance for Governance Users


Data Governance has never been more in demand.  Yet, governing data accurately and thoroughly across petabytes of data and multiple locations, vendors, instances, and types is almost impossible.  DNS addresses these challenges by:
